Un des éventements mondiales le plus attendu – Roland Garros 2018 – se réunit pour la 117ème fois de son histoire avec autour de lui, des regards du monde entier.
Le 21 mai 2018 a débuté les qualifications du tournoi de Roland Garros. C’était la première semaine du tournoi qui dure trois semaines en tout. Beaucoup de représentants internationalement connus de ce sport ont joué sur le terrain de Roland Garros pendant ces quelques semaines.
Simona Halep
Le 7 juin 2018, Simona Halep, première du classement mondiale, joueuse de tennis roumaine professionnelle depuis 2008, a joué contre Garbiñe Muguruza, joueuse de tennis hispano-vénézuélienne classée troisième à l’ATP. A la fin de ce match, Simona Halep a gagné ce qui lui a permis d’arriver en finale.
La finale. Ce 9 juin 2018, Simona Halep a joué contre Sloane Stephens, américaine arrivée en dixième position du classement mondial. Le premier set était bien pour Sloane Stephen mais la numéro 1 mondiale n’en a fait qu’une bouchée (6:4 6:1).
Et peu importe la surprise du résultat: à la fin de ce match c’est Simona Halep qui a remporté le Roland Garros féminin.
Rafael Nadal
Coté homes, c’était aussi impressionnant mais, moins surprenant. Rafael Nadal, 2ème du classement mondial, a affronté Juan Martín del Potro, joueur de tennis argentin professionnel depuis 2005, 4ème du classement ATP. Rafael Nadal a gagné en trois sets: 6:4 6:1 6:2, ce qui lui a permis de valider son ticket pour la finale.
Révélation de cette édition, Marc Cecchinato, joueur de tennis italien professionnel depuis 2010, 28ème du classement mondial, a joué contre Dominic Thiem, joueur de tennis autrichien professionnel depuis 2012, 7ème au monde. Dominic Thiem, avec beaucoup de difficultés, a gagné sa demi finale: 7:5 7:6 6:1.
Enfin, le 10 juin 2018, la journée tant attendue est enfin arrivée. Et quel enthousiasme autour de cette finale inédite et pleine de promesse. Rafael Nadal, l’homme au 10 Roland Garros, toujours en piste avec un onzième titre en point de mire.
Dominic Thiem contre Rafael Nadal : rapidement le suspens s’est tu. 6:4 6:3 6:2.
Et voilà Rafael Nadal sur le toit du monde du tennis mondiale en terre-battue : quel résultat impressionnant, quel joueur ! Rafael Nadal remporte ce titre pour la 11ème fois et devient la légende sans partage de Roland Garros ! A l’année prochaine Rafa !
